# MetarBoard Pro

> MetarBoard Pro is a live multi-pane METAR aviation weather dashboard for pilots, flight schools, and FBOs. It runs in a browser and has dedicated TV apps for Google TV, Android TV, and Amazon Fire TV — designed for always-on kiosk displays in flight school briefing rooms, FBO lounges, and home cockpits.

MetarBoard Pro is built by snickitybit (Edward Juden, edward@snickitybit.com), a pilot-run software company in North Texas. The product is a paid SaaS at $8/month or $72/year with a 14-day free trial. School and FBO licenses are available via direct outreach.

The dashboard shows live METARs with color-coded flight categories (VFR / MVFR / IFR / LIFR), animated wind particles on US and regional maps, FAA d-TPP airport diagrams, auto-generated runway layouts for non-towered fields, crosswind calculators, and trend charts. Dashboards are saved per user and shareable by link. The mobile app (MetarBoard Wind, separate product) is view-only and lets pilots load shared dashboards on iOS or Android.

Source data: AviationWeather.gov for METARs and TAFs, FAA d-TPP for airport diagrams, OurAirports for runway and frequency data. No paywalled or proprietary data sources.

## Flight category color coding (across all surfaces)

- VFR (green): visibility ≥ 5 SM, ceiling > 3,000 ft
- MVFR (blue): visibility 3–5 SM, ceiling 1,000–3,000 ft
- IFR (red): visibility 1–3 SM, ceiling 500–1,000 ft
- LIFR (magenta): visibility < 1 SM, ceiling < 500 ft

## Stale METAR handling

Any observation 65+ minutes old is flagged with a red "STALE" badge. Wind animation is suppressed on stale stations, "BEST" runway badge is hidden. METAR cache refreshes 5 times per hour to catch late-publishing stations.

## Embedding dashboards

Any shareable dashboard URL appended with `?embed=1` strips all chrome (toolbar, banners, prompts) for iframe embedding in blog posts. Example embed code is on the gallery page.
